An elusive escaped goat continues to evade police in one Rhode Island town, but a donkey was apparently no match for the local department.
Glocester police have chronicled their search for an escaped goat on social media for several weeks, even poking fun at their inability to capture it. They told WJAR they’ve received calls about the goat sleeping on people’s porches, and in one case even entering a local home.
“For the past several weeks, you may have noticed a goat has been on the loose around town. This week, he took things to the next level and became an active suspect in a breaking & entering in a home off Cooper Rd.,” Glocester police said in a Facebook post Thursday. “Officers arrived and caught him red-hooved inside the home, but the suspect was faster than us and made his getaway out the back door and back into the woods. He remains at large and now has an active warrant with our department.”
“If you spot this four-legged fugitive, don’t approach—just give us a call,” they added, along with the hashtags #GoatOnTheRun and #BaaaadGuy. “We will bring this fugitive to justice.”
The Facebook post included a “most wanted” poster featuring photo of the animal and joking that it faces charges including breaking and entering, trespassing “and general hooliganism.”
A day later, they posted an update with a photo of the goat relaxing on a porch, saying it’s doing just fine.
“The goat is still free, still fast, and still making us look bad. The goat’s fine. We’re not.”
They might not be able to corral the goat, but Glocester police did manage to track down a wayward donkey that they found strolling down Chopmist Hill Road last week.
“Don’t worry, this is not to be confused with the fugitive goat that we’ve been chasing recently. Different animal entirely,” they said in a Facebook post. “If you’re missing your donkey, please give us a call at the PD so we can get him back home before he causes a traffic jam. Only in Glocester…”
Anyone who sees the runaway goat is asked to call their local police station or Glocester police at 401-568-2533.
