A DoorDash driver fatally shot a Canadian tourist who was visiting the United States for a golf trip, according to Wisconsin police and news reports.

The Sheboygan Falls Police Department announced the arrest Sept. 26 of Luis E. Cruz Burgos, who was charged first-degree reckless homicide.

He is accused of killing 32-year-old Giovanni Michael Robinson in the early-morning hours of Sept. 24, police say.

Before he was shot dead, Robinson was celebrating his first-hole-in one, according to a GoFundMe.

He, his brother-in-law and two friends had left a bar when they tried to negotiate with a DoorDash driver to take them to their hotel, according to a criminal complaint obtained by WISN.

The group walked away when the price for the ride was too high, WISN reported. Cruz-Burgos is accused of driving off and completing his DoorDash delivery, then driving back toward Robinson and his group.

Police said Cruz-Burgos fired one shot at the group, striking Robinson, before fleeing the scene, according to WTMJ. Robinson died at the scene.

“His brother-in-law held him in his arms, held, tried to bring him back,” Lydia Cirivello, Robinson’s aunt, told WBAY.

Cruz-Burgos, a DoorDash driver for nine months, was identified as the alleged gunman through surveillance footage, WTMJ reported. He was not allowed to possess a firearm due to a previous domestic incident.

When he was taken into custody, Cruz-Burgos denied shooting anyone, but said one of the men called him “stupid” and another flipped him off, WISN reported, citing the complaint. He said he drove away “without incident and saw no shooting.”

After getting married in 2022, Robinson became a father for the first time in August, according to a GoFundMe.

“He was the proudest when she arrived, showing her off with the biggest smile you could ever imagine,” creators of the fundraiser said. “He dove right into his new role of ‘Dad’ and was a natural, just like we all knew he would be. It is the most heartbreaking to know he will never be able to hold his baby girl again.”

Sheboygan Falls is about a 55-mile drive north from Milwaukee.
