SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The HOPE Center for the Arts is kicking off its 2025 fall season this Saturday night with a performance by African American women’s ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock.
Founded in 1973, Sweet Honey In The Rock is a group celebrated internationally for their blend of traditional and contemporary sounds and their themes of social justice that resonate throughout their music. Utilizing genres such as blues, gospel, and jazz, the ensemble advocates for significant issues such as women’s rights, racial justice, and environmental awareness.
“Sweet Honey In The Rock has a steadfast commitment to positive change through song,” said Artistic Director Isaac Eddy. “For decades, they have reduced as many barriers as possible for all to experience live performance. These are the reasons we wanted Sweet Honey In The Rock to open our inaugural season. The HOPE Center for the Arts’ central mission is to offer free arts education to all Springfield youth, and there is no one better to celebrate that mission than Sweet Honey In The Rock.”
The band is returning to the region for the first time since the Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival in 2018. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m. All proceeds from the concert will benefit the HOPE Center for the Arts.
The HOPE Center for the Arts is located at 150 Bridge Street in Springfield. For more information on the performance and upcoming events or to reserve tickets, visit hopecenterforthearts.org.
