Embattled Courtney Jordan Foundation president again a no-show in court

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) — Courtney Jordan Foundation (CJF) President Kristen Picot was scheduled to appear Thursday before a district court judge — and again, she was a no-show. The ABC11 I-Team asked her attorney, Eric Williams, why.

“I will address the court,” Williams responded. “You will hear that in a few moments.”

Williams requested a motion to continue the case until next month. He showed the judge a letter on his phone from a medical provider that said Picot is hospitalized.

“This is the defendant’s motion to continue. Ms. Picot is currently hospitalized at a hospital in Raleigh,” Williams said. “Judge, I never know when someone needs medical treatment. I was hoping to not be in that situation, but that’s the situation at this time. I respectfully ask for the court to continue it.”

ABC11 confirmed that WakeMed is treating a patient named Kristen Picot.

The request was granted until Oct. 30.

That development came a little more than 24 hours after, in a separate case, Durham Police issued warrants for CJF founder Courtney Jordan and Chief Financial Officer Nicholaus Gallardo.

Police told ABC11 that the two are considered wanted. Both are charged with allegedly obtaining property by false pretenses and felony conspiracy in connection with fraudulent activity. Investigators said this is still an active investigation, and neither one is in custody.

“Durham Police uses a variety of techniques to locate and arrest wanted persons,” DPD said in a statement to ABC11. “Each individual case is unique, and we cannot provide specific investigative techniques being used on individual cases, as it could potentially jeopardize the case.”

Former CJF employees who said they still have not been paid expressed frustration.

“We work so hard. We deserve our money. It has been hard,” said former camp counselor Briana Thompson. “Everybody has bills to pay. We still have a life. I did find another job, so that’s how I’m managing now.”

The ABC11 I-Team was first to speak with former CJF camp counselors Briana and Jasmine Thompson.

“I just want my money. I just want everybody to know what they did. It was wrong. Nobody works for free,” said Jasmine Thompson.

ABC11 reached out to the Courtney Jordan Foundation for comment for the second day in a row. Again, there was no response.
