ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– 41-year-old Hector Gomez of Schenectady has admitted to gun charges after reportedly brandishing a gun and threatening patrons inside the Washington Tavern in Albany. Gomez faces eight to 12 years in prison, the Albany County District Attorney’s Office said.
Gomez reportedly got into a verbal argument with a group of bar patrons at the Washington Tavern just after 2:45 a.m. on February 8. The argument then turned physical, and Gomez reportedly pulled out a loaded 9mm handgun, allegedly placed it on a female’s head and said, “I’ll kill everyone in here.”
According to the DA’s office, Gomez then exited the bar and shot two rounds into the ground before leaving the area. He then turned himself into Albany Police on February 17.
Gomez was arraigned on a six-count indictment in March, charging him with Second-degree kidnapping, Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, Second-degree burglary, First-degree unlawful imprisonment, First-degree criminal trespassing, and Second-degree menacing.
On Tuesday, Gomez pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. According to the DA’s office, in his guilty plea, he faces an eight-to-12-year sentence.
Gomez is expected to be sentenced on January 2. The case is being prosecuted by Joseph Brucato, Assistant District Attorney and Bureau Chief of the Major Crimes Unit.
