HUNTER, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The town of Hunter has declared a state of emergency amid severe drought conditions and increased risk of wildfires. The state of emergency went into effect just after midnight on Sunday.
According to Town Supervisor Sean Mahoney, all outdoor burning, with the exception of cooking food on a contained gas or charcoal grill, is prohibited. This includes the outdoor burning of yard trash, household paper products, bonfires, campfires, warming fires, outdoor fire places, chimneys, and other cooking fires.
Mahoney said this state of emergency is to protect public safety, conserve emergency resources, and reduce the threat of wildfires. The state of emergency will remain in effect until October 21.
