Shots were fired from outside the building into the lobby. Nobody was hurt.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Police in Sacramento announced an arrest in the investigation of a shooting at ABC10’s office.

64-year-old Anibal Hernandezsantana was arrested at a home in Sacramento, the Sacramento Police Department said on a X post early Saturday.

Hernandezsantana’s charges include assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied building, and negligent discharge of a firearm, police said.

The shots were fired from outside the building into the lobby on Friday afternoon.

People were inside the building, but nobody was hurt.

Police said his motive remains under investigation.

It’s not clear how many shots were fired, but it appears at least three rounds hit the lobby window.

The shooting was reported just after 1:30 p.m.

“We’re going to figure out who’s responsible for this,” Gamble said Friday afternoon before the arrest.  “Fortunately, we haven’t had a lot of attacks on our media partners. We would like to keep it that way. This is unacceptable behavior. To those that may have been responsible for this, I hope you see this, we’re not going to stop looking for you.”

Governor Newsom’s press office posted the following on social media:

“The Governor has been briefed on reports of a shooting at a local ABC affiliate in Sacramento. While no injuries have been reported, any act of violence toward journalists is an attack on our democracy itself and must be condemned in the strongest terms. We stand with reporters and staff who work every day to keep communities informed and safe!”

On Thursday, a group of protesters gathered outside the building in response to the ABC network suspending late-night host Jimmy Kimmel over remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

The station had received numerous complaints.

ABC10 is an affiliate of ABC but not owned by the network. It is owned by TEGNA.

After the shooting TEGNA released a statement saying, “We can confirm that shots were fired into our station at KXTV earlier today. While details are still limited, importantly all of our employees are safe and unharmed. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and have taken additional measures to ensure the continued safety of our employees.”
