GUKPT Edinburgh Kicks Off October 9; £350,000 in Combined Guarantees

The seventh of eight legs, nine if you include the Grand Final, of the 2025 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) sees the long-running tour head to Edinburgh, Scotland, from October 9 through October 19. A £1,000 buy-in, £150,000 guaranteed GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event is the showpiece tournament on the schedule, but there’s much more to this stop than that one event.

GUKPT Edinburgh has been a staple of the tour since debuting in 2014. The COVID-19-enforced lockdown aside, GUKPT has stopped off in the Scottish capital every year. The Grosvenor Maybury Casino, located at 1-5 South Maybury, will again host the GUKPT Edinburgh stop, ensuring players from far and wide are treated to a high-class live poker experience.

October 9 sees the first two of six flights in the £200 No-Limit Hold’em Opener shuffle up and deal. By the time late registration slams shut on Day 2 on October 12, Grosvenor Casinos guarantees that at least £50,000 will be in the prize pool.

Following the Opener is the £250 buy-in, £100,000 guaranteed Mini Main, the £1,650 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller, and the £1,000 buy-in, £150,000 guaranteed GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event.

Other side events include a £250 Pot-Limit Omaha event, a £200 No-Limit Hold’em tournament, the ever-popular £340 GUKPT Cup, a £150 Seniors, and a £330 PLO Bounty.

Of course, several GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event satellites run throughout the festival. Most guarantee five seats, but those on October 16 and October 17 have ten seats guaranteed. Those preferring to secure a GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event seat before traveling should check out the online satellites at Grosvenor Poker.

Paul McAulay is the reigning GUKPT Edinburgh champion

Last year’s GUKPT Edinburgh festival awarded almost £450,000 across ten events. Paul McAulay was the biggest winner after he came out on top of a 184-strong crowd in the £1,250 Main Event to collect £34,810 of the £153,980 prize pool. McAulay defeated Matthew Davenport heads-up.

Ankit Ahuja also won big, scooping £25,200 for his £1,650 High Roller victory. Craig Smith (£14,620), and Sinead Davenport (£10,280) also took home five-figure prizes after finding themselves posing for winner’s photographs.

Past GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event Champions

Ludovic Geilich
Ludovic Geilich

Andrew Teng won the inaugural GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event in April 2014. The Main Event commanded a £550 buy-in back then, and Teng turned that sum into £26,000. Former Irish Open champion James Mitchell came out on top the following year, walking away with £33,930.

The buy-in was increased to £750 in September 2021, resulting in a £61,220 top prize for Majid Iqbal. A further increase to £1,000 in May 2023 saw Ludovic Geilich outlast 365 opponents and claim a £79,590 score, the largest GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event prize.

Last year’s GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event cost £1,250 to enter. A field of 184 entrants, including re-entries, was the joint-lowest in the tournament’s history, which could be why Grosvenor Casinos has reduced the buy-in of this year’s Main Event to a more affordable £1,000.
