DaCara Thompson funeral services announced

Funeral services for DaCara Thompson, who was murdered in a Bowie home, have been announced.

HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Funeral services for a Prince George’s County woman who was murdered in a Bowie home have been announced.

The search for 19-year-old DaCara Thompson galvanized people in the Hyattsville community and beyond.

The search took a tragic turn when a body that was discovered in Anne Arundel County turned out to be hers.

Visitation hours for Thompson will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m.

Both will be at Kettering Baptist Church Legacy Center, 6909 Crain Highway, Upper Marlboro, Md.

Police arrested Hugo Hernandez-Mendez, 35, of Bowie and charged him with  first and second-degree murder.

Investigators say Hernandez-Mendez is from Guatemala and has been living in the country illegally. Police believe he killed Thompson inside his Bowie home early in the morning of August 23, and then drove her body to Route 50 between Route 424 and Route 97 in Anne Arundel County, and threw her body over a bridge.

Court documents show Hernandez-Mendez told police he was at the Galaxy Night Club on University Blvd in Hyattsville, which is across the street from where Thompson was seen getting in his black SUV. He claims he was supposed to meet his ex-girlfriend, but never did. He denied any involvement and asked for a lawyer.
