‘Saw the sparks’: Crash closes US-64 westbound near Lizard Lick Road in Zebulon

The westbound lanes of U.S Highway 64 near Lizard Lick Road in Zebulon are closed following a serious crash early Saturday morning.

According to the traffic alert sent out around 4:30 a.m., most of the lanes on US-64 west in Wake County right by Exit 432 closed due to a crash that seems to involve a tractor trailer.

The traffic alert says the road is expected to reopen around 8:30 a.m.

A witness who was almost involved in the crash himself called WRAL to describe the scene.

“[The car] started to go off the side of the road on the left and then they overcorrected and when they came back, they missed the back of my truck by 10, 15 feet,” said Scott Harlow.

“Then they overcorrected, went left and went across the median. I was still watching it in the rear view mirror of my truck and that’s when I saw the sparks and they hit what looked to be an 18-wheeler.”

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker is on the scene working to learn more information from State Highway Patrol about the crash, including details on any injuries and how the crash happened.
