JOLIET, Ill. (WGN) – A man died in a crash involving a tractor trailer Friday afternoon in Joliet.
The Joliet Police Department said the crash happened just before 1 p.m. near the intersection of South Chicago Street (Route 53) and Schweitzer Road.
According to police, a Kenworth tractor trailer being driven by a 54-year-old man from Georgia was leaving a business in the 3400 block of South Chicago Street and facing eastbound.
Investigators believe the tractor trailer then initiated a left turn toward northbound South Chicago Street and hit a Chevrolet Sonic being driven by a 28-year-old Joliet man and traveling southbound on South Chicago Street. The crash caused the driver of the Chevrolet to be ejected from his vehicle.
Paramedics with the Joliet Fire Department took the driver of the Chevrolet to St. Joseph Medical Center where he died, while the driver of the tractor trailer was not injured, according to investigators.
The road was closed for several hours while investigators conducted their investigation.
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with video footage or information regarding the crash should call the Joliet Police Department’s Traffic Division at 815-724-3010.
