Both Capitol and DC police are at the scene.

WASHINGTON — Democratic National Committee headquarters received a potential bomb threat Thursday afternoon, law enforcement confirmed.

The bomb threat was reported at 1:07 p.m., U.S. Capitol Police said. The Metropolitan Police Department’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal squad were requested by Capitol Police.

Capitol Police said they are checking the building and its surrounding area. So far, police said, nothing has been found outside. Now, they are checking inside the building “out of an abundance of caution.”

The DNC building is located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Southeast D.C.

This comes just one day after conservative political activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. In the wake of his death, people on both sides of the aisle have condemned political violence. However, some have pointed fingers, with President Donald Trump blaming the “radical left” for Kirk’s assassination in a video Wednesday.

Six historically Black colleges and universities, including two in Virginia, are also on lockdown Thursday in response to various threats.
