PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A small cluster of earthquakes have been recorded off the Oregon Coast since Monday, with three more recorded early Tuesday afternoon after the first quakes were reported Monday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quakes — a 4.9 magnitude just after 12:02 p.m., a 4.4 magnitude just after 12:31 p.m. and a 5.1 magnitude earthquake at 12:31 p.m. at a different location — all are occurring in the Blanco Fracture Zone off the Oregon Coast.

The Blanco Fracture Zone is more than 100 miles west of Port Orford, Oregon. So far, USGS is reporting at least 12 earthquakes in this region.

Earthquakes below a magnitude 6.5 are “very unlikely to trigger a tsunami,” the USGS says.

The quake comes less than a day after a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck 100 miles off the coast Monday night. According to USGS, the earthquake was strong enough to lead to aftershocks nearby, with a 47% chance of smaller earthquakes in the area within the week.
