Heavy police and fire presence reported in a Folsom neighborhood

Folsom Police said there is a heavy police and fire presence in the 100 block of River Ridge Way and urges people to avoid the area.

FOLSOM, Calif. — The Folsom Police Department (FPD) is warning people to avoid the 100 block of River Ridge Way due to a fire and barricade situation that began Monday afternoon.

According to a Facebook post by Folsom police, an “event” involving heavy fire and police presence was taking place. The FPD later clarified that police and the Folsom Fire Department (FFD) were attempting to negotiate with a “barricaded subject in the residence who is believed to be armed.”

“We are working with the fire department to protect the lives and property of the neighborhood,” said Deidre McAuliff of the FPD.

According to police, FPD officers were called to a residence on the 100 block of River Ridge Way for reports of a suspicious person around 4:30 p.m. The suspect then barricaded themselves inside the home, with flames engulfing the home not long after.

As of 10 p.m., firefighters are still on scene and working to put out the fire, with support from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
