A 3-year-old girl died in Elk Grove after being hit by a car backing out of a driveway, CHP says.
ELK GROVE, Calif. — A 3-year-old girl died Sunday afternoon after being hit by a car backing out of a driveway in Elk Grove, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol said the incident happened at about 3:44 p.m. on Point Pleasant Road, when dispatchers received reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.
According to investigators, a 29-year-old woman was backing her Nissan out of a driveway around 3:40 p.m. when she hit a 3-year-old girl who was standing behind the vehicle with a 33-year-old man.
Family members at the scene called 911. Crews from the Cosumnes Fire Department arrived and began life-saving measures before rushing the child to a hospital.
Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead the hospital.
Authorities said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash. The crash is still in the early stages of the investigation. No determination has been made as of yet.
The South Sacramento CHP office continues to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
