CHICAGO (WGN) — Cracker Barrel is returning to its roots after facing widespread backlash over the last few days.
The restaurant chain announced on Tuesday that it has reversed its decision to ditch its old logo and will continue with its original design, following widespread backlash.
“We thank our guests for sharing your voices and love for Cracker Barrel. We said we would listen, and we have. Our new logo is going away and our “Old Timer” will remain, the restaurant chain announced on social media. “At Cracker Barrel, it’s always been – and always will be – about serving up delicious food, warm welcomes, and the kind of country hospitality that feels like family. As a proud American institution, our 70,000 hardworking employees look forward to welcoming you to our table soon.”
Last week, Cracker Barrel announced that, as part of an ongoing makeover, the chain’s new logo would ditch the eponymous barrel. In the new trimmed-down logo, seen below, the old-timey look of the man with a barrel is gone, as are the words “Old Country Store.”
Instead, the new emblem featured a simpler design with just “Cracker Barrel” written on a gold background. The shape of the gold background and font was also altered.
President Donald Trump also joined in the criticism, urging Cracker Barrel to bring back its old logo on Tuesday. Nexstar’s The Hill reports that the restaurant chain saw its stock plummet by millions after the release of the new logo.
Cracker Barrel was founded in Tennessee in 1969. Nearly two dozen restaurants are located in Illinois.
