So here’s my radical plan to save Portland: Throw some red meat to Clackamas County and Vancouver residents by paving all of I-205 to the limit of the easement. Shut down I-5, through Portland and reclaim the real estate to create more housing and green space. Create a transit corridor to move people not cars. Eliminate the main things that make urban living unpopular with families, noise, bad air quality, and danger, all of these things pretty much created by automobile traffic. And I can hear the whining in the distance, what about the jobs, well maybe it’s time to let an industry that needs to be subsidized to the hilt and bailed out every 8-10 years die a natural death.
