(FOX40.COM) — The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory starting on Friday morning as the triple-digits make their way back to the Sacramento region.
Sacramento County announced they are activating the regional weather respite center starting on Thursday. Anyone in the community who may be interested in checking them out is highly encouraged to call 211 to check for capacity before traveling to the center.
Here are some locations and times listed below:
Warren E. Thornton Youth Center, which is located at 4000 Branch Center Road in Sacramento, will start to open on Thursday at 1 p.m. until August 25 at 10:00 a.m., according to officials. The center will be open 24/7 for a couple of days.
- Pets are welcome, but there is limited capacity; they must be crated at all times. Crates, leashes, and dog or cat food are provided.
- Guests will receive snacks, water, and meals
- Guests must be 18 or older
- Phone and device charging will be available
- Restrooms and showers are available
- Cots and blankets
- Light Case Management
- Capacity for up to 100 guests
The Outreach and Engagement Center is located at 3615 Auburn Boulevard and will be open starting Friday at 10 a.m. to Sunday at 8 a.m.
The Sam & Bonnie Pannell Community Center is located at 2450 Meadowview Road, starting from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday.
City officials said the Citrus Heights Police Department, which is located at 6315 Fountain Square Drive, will also have its lobby open during the days that exceed 100 degrees from noon to 8 p.m.
SacRT has partnered with Sacramento County to offer free rides on fixed-route buses and light rail to those who need to get out of the sun and to a place with cooling temperatures.
