DENVER (KDVR) — A man was sentenced to 20 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office for “large-scale” drug trafficking in Adams County, the DA’s Office announced in a press release on Monday morning.
The man, Rodrick Maye, 45, was sentenced for possessing with intent to distribute large quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamines and cocaine.
On May 25, 2024, Thornton police officers saw Maye swerve into oncoming traffic on East 88th Avenue.
The officers performed a traffic stop, and said Maye showed signs of impairment and failed roadside sobriety tests, before being arrested for driving under the influence.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found multiple open containers of alcohol and a Crown Royal bag in the center console that had two plastic bags of blue M30 fentanyl pills, which weighed 211 grams.
Officers also found additional items in the vehicle, including:
- A scale
- Empty plastic bags
- Multiple bags of methamphetamine weighing a total of 378 grams
- Blue M40 fentanyl pills weighing 56 grams
- Cocaine weighing 4 grams
- A .45 caliber handgun loaded with a magazine and one round in the chamber under the driver’s seat
- Another fully-loaded .45 caliber magazine
- A fully-loaded .9mm magazine
Maye pleaded guilty to felony possession with intent to distribute fentanyl (over 50 grams) and driving under the influence. As part of the same plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to felony possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
He was sentenced on Aug. 13 to 20 years for each offense, which will run concurrently.
“This defendant had significant amounts of drugs that he had planned to distribute into our community and now will go to prison instead,” said District Attorney Brian Mason in the press release. “By taking this armed drug dealer off the streets, we continue our efforts to protect this community from the devastating impact of fentanyl, meth, and cocaine.”
