Authorities ended an hours-long search for a wanted man in the area of Lufkin Road and East Williams Street in Apex.
On Monday around 8:30 a.m., the Apex Police Department said the man ran away from police after they tried to arrest him. The unnamed man has multiple warrants linked to sexual offenses, according to investigators. Homeland Security confirmed they conducted the search.
Around 12 p.m., officers said the search was called off after “an exhaustive search of the area.”
Previously, police said they believed to have the man contained in a wooded area. Police said he’s about 5 feet tall and was last seen wearing a neon yellow shirt and a hat. A photo of the man was provided to the media.
“There is a significant police presence in the area, including police drones and K9s, but no known risk to the public at this time,” police posted on Facebook Monday morning.
Anyone who sees a person fitting the description of the man is asked to call 911.
