Galt family hosting free public autistic friendly Halloween
[ad_1]
(FOX40.COM) — Come Halloween time in Galt, there is a home on more than three acres, that is in the works of putting together a haunted adventure, geared specifically for autistic children to enjoy some Halloween fun.
It’s completely free of charge. The homeowners simply ask that parents attend with their kids.
Nine-year-old, fourth grader Unique Pickettay, gives us a sneak peek of things to come, at her sprawling three-plus acre home in Galt.
Her dads are putting together a fun Halloween event for her class, and opening it up to all kids with autism.
“What prompted me to do this was my daughter,” Alvin Pickettay said. “Because she has autism.”
With more than two decades working in social work- psychology, presently at Valley Mountain Regional Center, where Unique’s dad, Alvin Pickettay, helps adults with behavioral issues, he’s always had a soft spot in his heart, for those who are special with specific needs.
“So, we wanted to do something for our kids for Halloween, specifically because a lot of the kids aren’t able to go out and go trick-or-treating,” Pickettay said.
And while many festive displays for various events often say don’t touch, Unique’s Halloween event will be the exact opposite.
“All of these areas were meant to be specific for sensory… for the touch,” Ebony Horace Pickettay said. “Especially because we wanted to be more inviting and less scary. So we’ve designated it from lighter scale to more scary features so that it’s more seamless as they move around the property.”
There will be bounce houses, crafts and an outdoor movie area. And many stations along the way with candy, popcorn, sodas and hotdogs. There will also be plenty of no scare necklaces to go around.
The maze is located at 13458 John Rocha Circle, Galt and for more information call 209-456-4971.
