Taste of Winter Ahead – WCCB Charlotte’s CW

[ad_1]

Highs will struggle to get out of the 40s and 50s across the board Wednesday afternoon.

We’re barely two weeks into fall, but a shot of winter is already in the forecast. We hope you’ve enjoyed the warm close to the weekend, because the coldest air we’ve seen in over six months arrives Wednesday night. A sharp cold front slices through the Carolinas overnight, but the frigid air won’t arrive all at once. In fact, lows will only dip near 60° around the Queen City as we kick off the new workweek. Highs should clear the 70s on Monday across much of the Piedmont – albeit barely. Overnight temperatures will fall sharply into the 30s and 40s across the board as we wake up Tuesday morning, and it only gets colder from there.

A powerful ridge will set up shop across the heart of the country, pumping cold, dry air into the Carolinas from the north. Highs will end up in the 50s and 60s Tuesday afternoon despite abundant sunshine. The cold air sinks its teeth into our area by Wednesday afternoon as highs struggle to clear the 40s and 50s across the board. We’ll likely see the 30s in the Piedmont for the first time since April 7 – 189 days ago – to start the day on Thursday. Temperatures will slowly recover into the weekend, but we may not crack the 70s again in Charlotte until Sunday. Outside of stray showers in the High Country Monday morning and Tuesday night, rain chance remain few and far between over the next seven days.

Tonight: Mostly clear. Stray shower NW? Low: 62°. Wind: SW 5-15.

Monday: Sunny with cool breezes. High: 72°. Wind: NW 5-15. Gusts: 20+

Monday Night: Clear. Much cooler. Low: 46°. Wind: NW 5-15.

Tuesday: Cool with a few clouds. High: 66°. Wind: NW 5-10.
