CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A suspect is being treated for life-threatening injuries after being shot by a CMPD officer.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of West Sugar Creek Road near the I-85 exit.
CMPD said they encountered a “violent offender” who is also a convicted felon. That’s when officers said they noticed he had a number of weapons on him.
Chief Johnny Jennings says officer shot the suspect after he ignored officer’s commands to drop his weapon. Two weapons were recovered from the scene.
CMPD said no officers were injured.
West Sugar Creek Road was closed in both directions between Reagan Drive and Flowes Drive/The Roman Road while police were investigating.
The incident is still under an active investigation.
