Passer-by finds body in Stanislaus County canal

(FOX40.COM) — The discovery of human remains in a Modesto-area canal on Thursday has launched a death investigation by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

At 7:30 a.m., the remains were found near Garst Road and Church Street, just east of the Modesto city limits by a passer-by.

The body was removed from the canal by firefighters in order for the coroner to further examine the cause of death.

Investigators are also working to determine the identity of the deceased.
