There was a large police presence Thursday outside a Rocky Mount law firm after police said two people exchanged gunfire in the parking lot.
According to the Rocky Mount Police officers, the shooting took place around 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the Law Offices of Bennett and Gulley.
Sky 5 flew over the scene and saw at least two dozen evidence markers in the parking lot. Police said two people shot at each other and the ran from the scene.
“When that was happening, I saw a lot of people running away from the shooting,” one witness said. “When I came to the window I was like, ‘Oh, wait, they are shooting.'”
The witness did not want to be identified out of fear for their safety, but did share video with WRAL News of the moments after the shooting.
The video showed two people inside the law firm looking outside as a woman with a child in her hands gets into a white BMW and drives away after the shooting. WRAL News has asked police what lead up to the shooting and if anyone inside the BMW is connected to it.
Police said no one was injured and there is no current threat to the community.
The Rocky Mount Police Department told WRAL News its major crimes unit is investigating the area and following up on leads.
