[ad_1]
Six Kings and Five Queens were among the Royal Guests and Relatives from around Europe attending the Funeral of Earl Mountbatten of Burma at Westminster Abbey on this day in 1979, 45 years ago, following his Assassination by the IRA.
The Funeral of the Earl Mountbatten of Burma was held at Westminster Abbey following a Procession through the streets of London. After the Funeral, the body was buried at Romsey Abbey, near the Family Seat of Broadlands. Lord Mountbatten, a great-grandson of Queen Victoria, uncle of the Duke of Edinburgh, and the last British Viceroy of India, was killed when an IRA bomb exploded in his fishing boat in Ireland.
Six Kings and Three Queens joined the British Royal Family for the Funeral of Earl Mountbatten.
Queen Elizabeth II and the entire British royal family attended, as did numerous members of European royal families. It was the largest gathering of royalty in London since the funeral of King George VI in 1952
Since the 2nd Countess Mountbatten and Baron Brabourne were still in hospital, the Mountbatten Family were led by Lady Pamela and David Hicks and Lord Romsey.
