Sacramento domestic violence victim dies after 2 days in hospital

(FOX40.COM) — A woman who was sent to the hospital in critical condition after a domestic violence incident was pronounced dead two days later.

On Aug. 30, the Sacramento Police Department said it responded to the 1400 Block of Response Road for reports of domestic violence. When officers arrived at the scene, they found an unresponsive woman. She was transported to an area hospital in critical condition but died Monday, according to SPD. The suspect, Rahyme Johnson of Sacramento, 25, was initially arrested for alleged attempted murder and other related charges. His charges were upgraded to murder after her death.

The victim’s identity will be released after her next of kin is notified. Sacramento police said the incident is under investigation and advises anyone with information to call the department at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000. Anonymous tips can also be submitted using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app.
