(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento police are looking for two people suspected of breaking into a popular restaurant and stealing cash from its safe.

FOX40.com obtained video showing the moments when two burglars kicked down a door inside Mikuni’s midtown location on 1530 J Street.

“So, they broke into the door, and then somehow they opened the safe, and they got all the cash out from there,” Mikuni owner Taro Arai said.

Police said Mikuni is the latest victim in a recent rise in midtown restaurant burglaries.

“The department has looked and seen that there’s been a number of burglaries happening in the downtown area,” Sacramento police spokesperson Anthony Gamble said.

Police arrested a 61-year-old man on Tuesday in connection to a burglary at Beers Books earlier this month. Police said the man may also be responsible for two other burglaries in the midtown area — Ace’s Gryos and Hook and Ladder.

“This person is a prolific burglar,” Gamble said. “This person was doing it when I was working downtown, five years ago.”

While the Mikuni burglary suspects are still on the run, Arai said he’s passed all surveillance video and evidence left behind to police. He adds that he’s glad nobody was hurt in the burglary of his restaurant.

“It’s up to them, but I’m pretty sure there’s nothing they can really do,” Arai said. “But at least we can watch out for those people next.”

Anyone with information regarding the Mikuni burglary is urged to call Sacramento Police.
