Cumberland County breaks ground on its first Wawa store

Cumberland County is welcoming its first Wawa store!

After opening its first store in North Carolina in Kill Devil Hills in May, Wawa is breaking ground on its first store in Cumberland County Thursday.

The Hope Mills store will feature a unique new travel center store format, with a projected size of 8,397 square feet.

Wawa’s mascot, Wally Goose, will be at the groundbreaking ceremony Thursday.

The ceremony began at 10 a.m. at 5750 Corporation Drive in Hope Mills.

Wawa is planning on opening up to 15 stores in the Fayetteville area, starting with:

  • 5750 Corporation Dr. in Hope Mills
  • Raeford Road & Roxie Road in Fayetteville
  • 3901 Ramsey St. in Fayetteville
  • 6528 Rockfish Road in Fayetteville
  • Fayetteville Road & Jackson Court in Lumberton

More stores are planned to open in Rocky Mount, Elizabeth City, Greenville, Wilson and Goldsboro by the end of 2024. Over the next 10 years, the chain plans to reach a total of 90 stores statewide.
