August heat kicks in starting Thursday

[ad_1]

PORTLAND, Oregon — It has been nearly three weeks since we have seen daytime highs 90 degrees or above, now as we approach the last weekend of August we’re going to see our first heatwave of the month. Starting Thursday, a strong ridge of high pressure is going to develop that’s going to send out temperatures well above average for this time of year. Highs starting out on Thursday will be in the low 90s, with the hottest days of the heat wave arriving Friday and Saturday with temperatures in the mid to upper 90s.

Even though we’re going to see hot weather over the next few days, we’re not going to be seeing a record heat wave this time around. Record temperatures for this time of year are between 100 and 102 degrees. We’ll be just shy of those numbers for Friday and Saturday.

Sunday is going to be slightly cooler, but still daytime highs are going be in the upper 80s to the low 90s with much cooler temperatures arriving by Labor Day.

One thing we are looking out for a is a low pressure system that could bring showers and thunderstorms into southern Oregon, with a chance for those storms to move over into the Cascades. Right now, the shower threat is going to be south of Salem.
