Fred Meyer Union Works Set To Strike – KXL
[ad_1]
Portland, Ore. – Thousands of Fred Meyer employees in the Portland metro area are scheduled to begin a strike this week, according to UFCW Local 555. The strike is planned to start Wednesday at 6 a.m. and continue until 8 a.m. on Sept. 3, unless an agreement is reached.
The union, which represents about 4,500 Fred Meyer employees, announced the strike following a vote earlier this month. The vote authorized a strike over what the union describes as unfair labor practices during ongoing contract negotiations.
According to UFCW Local 555, the union alleges that Fred Meyer management has engaged in wage discrepancies among stores and departments and has withheld essential information during negotiations. The union also claims grievances have not been processed.
In a statement, Dan Clay, president of UFCW Local 555, said the strike aims to ensure Fred Meyer complies with its obligations to employees.
Fred Meyer has been contacted for comment.
