(FOX40.COM) — Nearly 400 people were arrested or cited for retail theft during a five-day operation, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
“This operation was a massive undertaking, involving countless hours of coordination between law enforcement agencies, retail partners, and community members,” SCSO said on social media. “Retail theft isn’t just a nuisance – it’s a serious crime that drives up prices, hurts local businesses, and creates an environment where lawlessness is tolerated.”
Photos of from the operation show stolen merchandise from Target and other retailers. Items included electronics, makeup, beauty products, school supplies, cookware, Pokémon cards, and more.
“This operation’s success is a testament to what can be done with coordinated enforcement, but it also sheds light on a harsh reality that we must confront,” SCSO said. “Most individuals arrested in this operation won’t spend a minute in jail. Current law requires that most of these criminals are issued a citation and return to the streets, the same as if they ran a stop sign.”
