Hot and humid with afternoon storms possible

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Today

Hot and humid today with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s,  High humidity will boost the heat index into the upper 90s. Expect dry conditions for the first half of the day, but showers and storms are possible during the afternoon and evening. The impacts will include gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning.

This Week

Big changes next week once the front moves out of the area. Sunshine, lower humidity, and cooler than average temperatures by Tuesday and this trend is expected to continue for the rest of the week. Expect highs in the lower 80s most days. 

Ernesto

Ernesto is now a tropical storm with sustained winds at 70 mph.  It is moving north-northeast at 9 mph.  The storm will pass near southeastern Newfoundland by Monday evening.
