Residents in Edgecombe County are dealing with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Debby on Friday afternoon.
Authorities asked several Pinetops residents to leave their homes due to severe flooding.
However some have still chosen to remain in their homes.
One woman who was asked to leave brought her dogs and told WRAL News, “This flooding happens during big storms.”
“It’s just very tiring, I’m tired right now. I just want to go to sleep,” Sarah Bridgers, Pinetops neighbor said. “I don’t know where I’ll go to be honest, because if my dogs can’t go, I’m gonna be right here.”
With several “high water” signs posted and authorities blocking off roads, many evacuees are now waiting in their cars, uncertain about when they’ll be able to return home.
First responders are holding their command center at Carver Elementary School.
WRAL News is on the scene and is working to learn more.
