Fliers Prepare To Sleep Over Night In Terminal As Delays Hit Charlotte Douglas International Airport – WCCB Charlotte’s CW

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hurricane Debby hasn’t even made landfall and it’s already causing problems for airports around the country including here at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Hundreds of flights have been canceled or delayed throughout Sunday. FlightAware, a flight tracking site, reports that more than 230 flights have been cancelled and upwards of 370 delayed.

Charlotte Douglas Airport posted to X that severe weather is the reason behind the backed up flights.

Abby Ward says she’s been in the terminal for more than 10 hours, waiting with her friends. The group is heading to panama to vacation, but their flight was cancelled right as they were set to board.

“Feel like there’s not much you can do,” Ward said.

She is trying to secure a new flight and says she waited for hours in line to speak with customer services. Fliers have complained that getting help feels like a challenge as airlines direct customers to automated messages.

Whether flying out of or into Charlotte, travelers have suggested packing patience as waits don’t appear to be speeding up.

Airport officials have recommended checking your flight status before arriving to the terminal to stay as up to date as possible on all flight info.
