DENVER (KDVR) — Aurora police said a man who reportedly ran out of a burning home with a gun fired at a responding ambulance, hitting the windshield but missing the three employees inside.
First responders were dispatched to a fire around 3:20 p.m. Friday in the 4200 block of South Kittredge Street.
“Someone had also called and reported that a man ran out of the house that was on fire, holding a gun,” the Aurora Police Department posted.
As Aurora Fire Rescue crews tried to put out the fire, police said a Falck ambulance arrived “and was immediately fired upon by this man.
“The round struck the front windshield and thankfully changed trajectory, not striking any of the three ambulance employees inside,” the department continued. “None of the firefighters were injured either.”
Police said arriving officers soon spotted the suspect and took him into custody after “a brief standoff” and using 40mm less-lethal rounds.
The 34-year-old man was treated at a hospital and is expected to be released on Saturday to face possible charges of arson and two counts of attempted murder.
Aurora Fire Rescue said just before 4:30 p.m. that the fire at the single-family home had been extinguished, and its cause was under investigation.
