Evacuations prompted in Sunol park due to fire

(KRON) — The Alameda County Fire Department is prompting evacuations in the Sunol Wilderness Regional Reserve park due to a fire. Officials said the “Creek Fire” grew to 350 acres with 0% containment as of 8:50 p.m. on Saturday.

Fire crews report the fire to be in Welch Creek and Calaveras Road in Sunol. They said the fire has since been moving at a moderate speed, and Cal Fire was calling in more resources for structure protection.
Alameda County firefighters first reported the fire at 3:50 p.m. Despite initially being about seven acres, within less than an hour, the fire grew to more than 50 acres with 0% containment.
At 6:40 p.m., the Creek Fire grew to 250 acres at 0% containment. “Evacuations of the park remain in place,” Cal Fire said. “The Sunol Wilderness Regional Preserve is closed until further notice,” East Bay Regional Parks said on their website.
