Crews from the Orange County Fire Department battled an apartment fire in Orlando on Friday afternoon.Chopper 2 was at the scene of the incident and showed a portion of the apartment’s roof engulfed in flames. The fire was located at an apartment complex at 5911 Casa Del Rey Circle. The fire department says it may have been caused by fireworks, but it is still under investigation. A young woman WESH spoke with doesn’t think she’ll be able to recover anything from her burned home. She said fireworks aren’t worth it.At first, Anna Pierre thought it was a joke. “She screamed fire,” she said of her cousin. “I thought she was joking the entire time,”But her cousin wasn’t kidding. The porch of their apartment was in flames. “By the time we got out, it was only like outside the porch, and the window broke like exploded. That’s when we ran out,” Pierre said. She made it out with her cousin and 1-year-old nephew. The fire didn’t take long to spread. “That’s what’s left now. Nothing,” she said. Orange County Fire Rescue says everyone was able to make it out, but the fire ultimately spread to three units. Five other apartments had too much water damage, and the utilities had to be shut off, leaving seventeen people displaced. The cause is still under investigation. But Chief Robert Battle with the fire department said, “There is a possibility fireworks have something to do with it. Fireworks were going off when we arrived on the scene.”This would be at least the third fire suspected to have been caused by fireworks in Central Florida since the Fourth of July. “It’s not worth it,” Pierre said. “Somebody’s life could have been in danger. We lost everything. Like everything,”The Red Cross is now assisting the impacted families.
