The Hornets are getting three second round picks from Denver as payment to the Nuggets for allowing the salary dump. The Nuggets are “cap hell” and were motivated to get off Reggie Jackson’s salary for next season. It’s an expiring deal for only $5.25 million, but the Nuggets need all the space they can as they try to retain Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
The Hornets will technically have to send something back to the Nuggets, but I’m not sure what that is yet. It’ll likely amount to nothing, like a top-55 protected pick that extinguishes if not conveyed in one season. The Nuggets have already offloaded a lot of their upcoming 2nd round picks, so unless they’re trading picks in the 2030s, the Hornets will be getting back picks in 2025, 2026 and somewhere else down the road.
This is the second time Reggie Jackson has been traded to the Hornets. First, the Clippers sent him to Charlotte in exchange for Mason Plumlee. The Hornets bought him out, which paved the way for him to sign with the Nuggets. Now the Nuggets have sent him back to Charlotte. There’s a possibility he spends little to no time in Charlotte again, depending on how the Hornets want to approach the upcoming season.
