The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and GridMatrix announced an expansion of their partnership on June 25.

GridMatrix, a leading provider of AI software for critical infrastructure optimization, will deploy its cloud-based software platform at the Port of New York and New Jersey.

Since 2022, GridMatrix has been working with the Port Authority – first through a pilot to improve operations on the George Washington Bridge and then scaling up the deployment to include the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels.

This latest deployment will be aimed at optimizing operations at Port Newark and the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal. The operations professionals at the port complex are using GridMatrix’s software to generate real-time alerts pertaining to security, traffic flow, vessel activity and emissions – as well as several other key performance indicators about the efficiency and safety at the facility.

Over time, the software will be used to generate data on those metrics. The platform uses AI and feed from existing cameras deployed at Port Newark to generate data insights.

“We’re thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to deploy our software at the Newark-Elizabeth port complex and serve the facility’s operating professionals,” said Nick D’Andre, GridMatrix CEO and co-founder. “This is the busiest container port on America’s East Coast and key piece of critical infrastructure in the global supply chain.”

Bethann Rooney, port director at the bistate agency, said the backbone of the success at the Port of New York and New Jersey has been its laser focus on safe, efficient and nimble operations across roads, rails and channels.

“Our work with GridMatrix will take those priorities to the next level, helping us detect and respond to issues quickly, gain operational insights from new data streams – and ultimately keep the goods powering our economy flowing,” said Rooney.

“We’re ready to take another step in working with the Port Authority at one of the most critical facilities it operates,” D’Andre added.
