(FOX40.COM) — A fire at a storage facility full of nuts that started on Sunday continues to burn itself out and has been causing flare-ups, fire officials say.
The Ripon Consolidated Fire District said Tuesday afternoon that the fire near Highway 120 and French Camp Road remains active with fire crews monitoring it 24 hours a day.
Pictures shared by the district show several structures heavily damaged and a large pile of nuts with flames throughout.
The district said the fire has caused oil from the burning materials to spread across the property and this oil has reignited, with fire crews putting these out as they happen.
Sprinklers have also been installed to help prevent dry grass to the south of the fire from igniting.
Officials said that the fire has resulted in an estimated $4 million in damages, including the loss of 2 million pounds of nuts.
