University Boulevard crash sends pedestrian to the hospital

Police have not said whether the driver stayed at the scene of the crash.

TAKOMA PARK, Md. — A person is in the hospital after they were hit by a driver while walking in Takoma Park early Monday morning. Several different Maryland agencies are looking into the crash.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Pete Piringer, the crash was first reported around 1:15 a.m. near the MegaMart on University Boulevard, near Anne Street. Investigators say the person was hit while walking in the area. 

Piringer said the person, who has not been identified, was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries described as critical and life-threatening. Takoma Park Police, Montgomery County Police and the Maryland Department of Transportation were all at the crash scene early Monday. Police have not said whether the driver involved in the crash stayed on the scene. It is not clear whether police are searching for someone.

Roads in the area were closed for the crash investigation, but reopened to traffic just before 5:30 a.m.

The crash investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone who may have additional information for investigators is urged to contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County at 1-866-411-TIPS.

Additional details were not immediately available.
