SEATTLE — The driver in a deadly crash on Interstate 5 in Seattle was arrested for suspected impairment, according to the Washington State Patrol.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson, the crash happened around 4 a.m. on southbound I-5 at the West Seattle Bridge when a vehicle became disabled.

Johnson said one of the occupants exited the disabled vehicle and was struck by a motorhome. An AMR ambulance that responded to the scene was then struck by another vehicle, pushing it into the original disabled vehicle, and striking the pedestrian.

The driver who crashed into the ambulance was arrested for suspected impairment and is under investigation of vehicular homicide.

The roadway was closed for several hours while authorities investigated.

Trooper John Dattilo said Washington State Patrol resources were exhausted Sunday morning after three other major DUI crashes in three hours in Pierce County and had to call on other agencies for support.
