18-year-old swimmer missing in Potomac River

Witnesses say a group was swimming when the 18-year-old went underwater and didn’t come back up.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Rescue crews have suspended the search for an 18-year-old swimmer who went underwater at the Potomac River but did not come back up Friday night.
According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, crews were called to the Potomac River near the Anglers Inn River Access for reports of a missing swimmer just before 8:45 p.m.
When crews arrived, a witness told them a group of people were swimming from the Virginia side of the river to the Maryland side, when one of the swimmers went underwater and never came back up.
The swimmer has only been identified as an 18-year-old man.
MCFR received help from US Park Police and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue in the search for the swimmer. The search was suspended Friday night. Crews plan to transition to a recovery operation Saturday morning when the sunrises.
