Red, White, and Blue Jello Shots (+ Video)

[ad_1]

Celebrate Memorial Day or the 4th of July with these patriotic red, white, and blue jello shots!

These festive layered jello shots are a real party favor and are ridiculously easy to make. After making jello shots too many times to count, I’ve included a ton of information and options to consider. I’m here to help so feel free to comment below with any questions!

Red, White, and Blue Jello Shots Ingredients

Here are the must-have ingredients required to make these:

  • Blue Jello – I use berry blue but Starburst blue raspberry and Sonic ocean blue work as well.
  • Red Jello – cherry provides the deepest red color, but strawberry works also.
  • Unflavored Gelatin – used to set the condensed milk in the white layer.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk – provides a hit of sweetness and provides the bright white color.
  • Alcohol – both Rum and Vodka work well. Keep reading for my recommendations.
  • Water – you’ll need both boiling water and cold water.

Alcohol Options

There are a few alcohol options I have found work really well with red, white and blue jello shots and any other Jello Shot Recipes. Do not add more alcohol than called for as the gelatin won’t set properly. Party foul!

Red, White and Blue Jello Shots With Vodka – while you can certainly use plain vodka, I sometimes use flavored vodka to mix it up a bit. I’ve used whipped cream vodka, pineapple vodka, berry vodka and coconut vodka with success.

Red, White and Blue Jello Shots With Rum – I love using Malibu Rum with Pineapple when making these jello cups since I usually serve them during the summer season. Nothing says “summer fun” like coconut and pineapple.

Blue Curacao – add even more island flavor to the blue layer by using Blue Curacao.

Non-alcoholic – I always make a booze-free version for the kiddos. Just add extra water or another liquid, like cranberry juice, 7-up, or fruit punch, etc. in place of the alcohol.

Serving Details

A 3.2 oz box of jello makes 16-18 jello shots, when the 2 oz. cups are filled 3/4 of the way full. You can double or triple the recipe without needing to make adjustments to the ratios.

A few extra tips related to serving:

  • Keep the shots refrigerated until ready to serve to keep the firm texture.
  • Jello shot recipes can be made up to 2 days in advance of serving. Just make sure to cover the shots so a gross film doesn’t form on the top.

Garnishes

Here are some fun garnish ideas to elevate the theme:

  • Whipped Cream or Cool Whip
  • Star Sprinkles
  • Candy (think Pop Rocks or Gummy Bears)
  • Fresh Fruit – I’ve used sliced strawberries and whole blueberries with success.
  • ….Or turn them into Syringe Jello Shots!

Red White and Blue Jello Shots

Celebrate Memorial Day or the 4th of July with these patriotic red, white, and blue jello shots! These festive layered jello shots are a real party favor and are ridiculously easy to make.

Instructions

Blue Layer

  • Add the blue jello to a large mixing bowl. Add 1 cup boiling water and stir until fully dissolved (approx. 3 min). Pour in 1 cup pineapple rum or vodka and stir until combined.

  • Pour the jello into each jello cup, filling 1/3 of the way. Refrigerate for a minimum of 1 hour, or until the jello is set.

White Layer

  • Add 2 packets of unflavored gelatin to a large mixing bowl. Add 1 cup boiling water and give it a quick stir. Let sit for 3 minutes so the gelatin can "bloom". (*Note 2) Stir in 1 cup of cold water.

  • Add the sweetened condensed milk and stir until combined. Set aside to cool for 5 minutes.

  • Gently pour the jello onto the set blue layer, filling 2/3 of the way from the top. Refrigerate for a minimum of 1 hour, or until the gelatin is set.

Red Layer

  • Add the red jello to a large mixing bowl. Add 1 cup boiling water and stir until fully dissolved (approx. 3 min). Pour in 1 cup pineapple rum or vodka and stir until combined. Set aside to cool for 5 minutes.

  • Gently pour the jello onto the set white layer, filling to the top. Refrigerate for a minimum of 1 hour, or until the jello shot is set.

Notes

Note 1 – Use any rum or vodka flavor you like. Pineapple rum works great here.
Note 2 – “Blooming” allows the water to touch each bit of gelatin allowing it to thicken.
