CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A local organization continued their mission of raising funds and helping those who served our country, with a benefit dinner in Chicopee Saturday night.

Leatherneck Charitable Fund Inc. held its 3rd Annual Steak & Cigar Veteran’s Benefit Dinner to do just that. An event first, about 200 tickets were sold for the charitable event at the Chicopee Portuguese Club.

22News spoke to Jeffrey St. Jean about the organization and how it partnered with several other veteran charities with a goal to assist as many local veterans as possible.

“We’re trying to do great work for vets and try to fill the gaps where other charities, they do amazing things, but sometimes there are some gaps in there, ” St. Jean said. “Vets need a little more help that is beyond the capability of what other charities is.”

According to the state, as of March, about 600 veterans are experiencing homelessness here in Massachusetts.
