10-year-old killed, 12-year-old injured in pedestrian crash in Delaware

A 10-year-old has died, and another child was injured after they were hit by a car in Wilmington, Delaware on Monday.
Just after 4:00 p.m., police were dispatched to the 2400 block of Faulkland Road for a report of pedestrians struck in a motor vehicle accident.
According to police, a 10-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy were walking on the sidewalk when they were hit by a car.
When officers arrived on scene, they learned that a 17-year-old male was the driver of the Hyundai Santa Fe that was traveling westbound on Faulkland Road approaching Centerville Road, before it crossed the double yellow line into the opposite lane of travel and struck the boys.
The children were on the sidewalk on the south side of Faulkland Road.
After hitting the two boys, the car continued traveling until it crashed into a home on the southwest corner of Faulkland Road, according to police.
The 10-year-old child was transported to Nemours Children’s Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
The 12-year-old child was transported to Nemours Children’s Hospital, treated for his injuries, and was later released.
The 17-year-old driver was transported to Christiana Hospital for his injuries where he was treated and released, according to police.
Officials didn’t say if the 17-year-old would be charged.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
