A fire broke out at the Timberline Lodge in Government Camp Thursday evening.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Timberline Lodge will reopen the hotel Sunday after a fire broke out in the attic of the historic lodge in Government Camp on Thursday. The ski area will reopen Saturday.

Timberline confirmed that the lodge will reopen on Sunday, saying on social media on Saturday that “There are challenges, but we are through the worst of it.” The lodge added for visitors to expect contractors and workers busy with repairs and water remediation.

It was expected that the historic lodge might be closed for a long time after numerous reports of a fire came in Thursday evening. A live camera from outside the lodge showed flames coming from the corner of the building.

All guests were able to safely evacuate the lodge and no injuries were reported.

Just under two hours from the time of the call, the first was under control and firefighters were working to protect historical artifacts and artwork, the Hoodland Fire District said. The fire was out around 11:10 p.m.

Timberline Lodge said fire investigators and clean-up crews worked through the night to determine the extent of the damage, which seems to have been contained to the lodge’s central areas, including the headhouse and main lobby areas. Timberline said there is some slight fire and water damage to those parts.

As for how the fire starter, Timberline said “It appears fireplace embers ignited the roof but did not penetrate the hotel interior.”

Fire crews from Hoodland Fire, Clackamas Fire, Gresham Fire and Estacada Fire responded and worked to help put out the flames, Clackamas Fire District reported.

Timberline said structural inspections of lodge began Friday and that if inspections go well, the hotel will reopen Sunday.
