Around 1:30 a.m., the Seminole County Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at an apartment complex located at 857 Ballard St. in Altamonte Springs. After arriving on scene just minutes after the call came in, they say the fire was showing through the roof. This fire has affected more than 12 units. A child has died as a result of the fire. Initial reports are that there were no working smoke detectors, according to SCFD. Currently, there are more than 70 firefighters on scene with units assisting from Maitland and Longwood Fire Departments. Altamonte Springs Police, the Florida State Fire Marshall’s Office, the American Red Cross and Duke Energy are on scene assisting.
