Clean-up continues on Roseville train derailment

(FOX40.COM) — On Sunday evening, the Roseville Fire Department responded to a multi-car train derailment at the J.R. Davis Railyard, according to department officials.

The derailment took place sometime around 6:30 p.m. It involved some 10 railcars with seven of the cars on their side, according to a report from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.

Clean-up efforts were still underway on Monday morning.

No confirmation has been given on what was inside the railcars, but authorities did report that there was no fire or hazardous material release following the derailment.

The J.R. Davis was opened in 1906 and sees 98% of all Northern California rail traffic, according to Union Pacific.

The yard is one of the largest on the West Coast, covering 950-acres at a length of 6 miles, and is the third largest employer in Roseville with around 2,000 employees.
